The Most Common Myths About

Chiropractic And Pregnancy

You've Been Told By Doctors, Friends and Social Media That Have Led To More Pain

If you’ve suffered with any sort of pain you have probably heard a wild range of stories and opinions from friends and family, and even outdated advice from doctors to rest and rely on painkillers which has left you confused, frustrated and unable to get long-term relief.

Here are some of the most common pain myths people who visit our Gregory Hills clinic have been told which has actually made their pain much worse, and stopped them living the life they deserve.

MYTH #1 - chiropractors will crack your bones
That couldn’t be further from the truth. While people do notice a popping sound when they get an adjustment, it’s not the bones cracking, breaking or crunching – it’s merely the sound effect of the air bubbles between the joints releasing.  This is why that popping sound comes out.   This common misconception probably stops a lot of women from coming in to see a chiropractor during their pregnancy, because they think that they’re going to get their bones cracked when, in reality, a chiropractor just adjusts them.  In a lot of instances, Maria doesn’t just use chiropractic; across the team at Activ Therapy, many different modalities are available to patients, which includes applied kinesiology, SOT, and soft tissue releases. This is where the clinician is releasing fascia and muscle tension, as well as doing some gentle mobilizations to help to support the spine and the body during pregnancy.
MYTH #2 - Chiropractic is not safe during pregnancy
Maria has worked with thousands of pregnant women throughout her chiropractic career, and many are surprised by how gentle the adjustments are. For those concerned about the safety of chiropractic care during pregnancy, Maria assures them that it is safe, as many women benefit from chiropractic treatments each year. In addition to chiropractic care, many women also use other therapies, such as massage. Maria encourages seeing multiple practitioners during pregnancy, as these treatments can complement each other. It's common for women to combine chiropractic adjustments with massage in the same day, or alternate between the two therapies each week.
